{"id":13175,"date":"2025-09-17T09:36:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T09:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13175"},"modified":"2025-09-17T09:36:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T09:36:05","slug":"railway-workers-union-to-strike-over-12-month-salary-arrears","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13175","title":{"rendered":"Railway Workers Union to strike over 12-month salary arrears"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Railway Workers Union of Ghana (RWU), under the Trades Union Congress (TUC-Ghana), has officially notified the Ghana Police Service of its intention to embark on a nationwide strike and peaceful picketing on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter addressed to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, dated September 15, 2025, the Union said the decision follows 12 months of unpaid salaries and entitlements, which it described as a major source of hardship for railway workers and their families.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Union, the salary delays\u2014dating back to October 2024\u2014have left many workers in financial distress, leading to broken homes, health complications such as strokes, and disruptions in their children\u2019s education.<\/p>\n<p>Despite repeated appeals to the Ministry of Transport and other relevant authorities, the Union noted that no negotiations, mediation, or arbitration measures, as required under the Labour Act, have been initiated to resolve the matter.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_shortcode\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-10\">\u201cBy Monday, 22nd September 2025, if no concrete measures are taken by the Ministry of Transport to address these issues, we shall proceed to act under Sections 160 and 171 of the Labour Act effective 30th September 2025,\u201d the letter signed by General Secretary, Benjamin Essuman, stated.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The planned industrial action will see workers from Tema, Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tarkwa converge for a peaceful procession. The march will begin at the Ministry of Transport in Accra, continue to Parliament to present a petition, proceed to the Ghana Railway Development Authority, and conclude at the TUC-Ghana headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>The Union assured the police that the exercise would be peaceful and conducted in strict compliance with the law.
