{"id":13477,"date":"2025-10-06T12:51:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T12:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13477"},"modified":"2025-10-06T12:51:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T12:51:07","slug":"chairman-wontumi-reports-to-cid-over-akonta-mining-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13477","title":{"rendered":"Chairman Wontumi reports to CID over Akonta mining probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"197\" data-end=\"415\">The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as\u00a0<em data-start=\"304\" data-end=\"322\">Chairman Wontumi<\/em>, has reported to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"417\" data-end=\"513\">Chairman Wontumi appeared at the CID Headquarters around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, October 6, 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"751\">His appearance follows a warning issued by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, on Friday, October 3, 2025, that he would be arrested if he failed to report, as charges against him had already been signed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"753\" data-end=\"912\">The investigation is linked to Akonta Mining Limited, a company associated with the NPP chairman, which is under probe for alleged illegal mining activities.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_shortcode\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-10\">According to the Attorney General, progress on the case had stalled because key dockets were allegedly concealed under the previous administration.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p data-start=\"1065\" data-end=\"1217\">Speaking to Citi News on Sunday, October 5, Chairman Wontumi\u2019s lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, confirmed that his client would honour the police invitation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1219\" data-end=\"1358\">He, however, described the Attorney General\u2019s warning as unnecessary, insisting that his client has always cooperated with investigators.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1360\" data-end=\"1780\">\n<p data-start=\"1362\" data-end=\"1508\">\u201cWe have been asked to appear at the police CID in Accra, which we are ready for and we will be there at 10 a.m. at the police CID headquarters.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1780\">This announcement by the Attorney General surprises me.
