{"id":13504,"date":"2025-10-06T20:00:26","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T20:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13504"},"modified":"2025-10-06T20:00:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T20:00:26","slug":"akonta-mining-trial-to-begin-on-tuesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13504","title":{"rendered":"Akonta Mining trial to begin on Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"228\" data-end=\"433\">The trial of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"435\" data-end=\"686\">This follows his appearance before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Monday, October 6, 2025, in compliance with a directive from the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"886\">Dr. Ayine had, on Friday, October 3, 2025, warned that the NPP regional chairman would be arrested if he failed to report to the CID, noting that charges against him had already been approved.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"888\" data-end=\"1114\">Chairman Wontumi is facing charges related to alleged illegal mining activities connected to Akonta Mining Limited, a company reportedly associated with him. He has since been granted bail in the sum of GH\u00a21 million.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_shortcode\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-10\">He appeared before investigators accompanied by his lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1201\" data-end=\"1350\">Speaking to the media after the engagement, Chairman Wontumi commended both the police and the Attorney General\u2019s Office for their professionalism.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1352\" data-end=\"1516\">\n<p data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1516\">\u201cI want to congratulate the police system for showing professionalism. We also want to thank the Attorney General for facilitating the entire process,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1659\">He confirmed that the charge against him involves \u201cmining without a license\u201d, adding that the matter would be fully addressed in court.<\/p>\n<blockquote data-start=\"1661\" data-end=\"1855\">\n<p data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1855\">\u201cAs you have seen, we will go to court, and that is where the decision will be taken.
