{"id":13577,"date":"2025-10-09T11:01:43","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T11:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13577"},"modified":"2025-10-09T11:01:43","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T11:01:43","slug":"hefra-shuts-down-17-unlicensed-health-facilities-nationwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=13577","title":{"rendered":"HeFRA shuts down 17 unlicensed health facilities nationwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"67\" data-end=\"273\">The Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) has closed down 17 health facilities across the country for operating with expired licences or under unsafe conditions deemed unfit for healthcare delivery.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"275\" data-end=\"463\">According to the agency, the closures form part of a nationwide inspection exercise aimed at eliminating facilities operating without the necessary authorisation or proper documentation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"465\" data-end=\"693\">Addressing the media, the Chief Executive Officer of HeFRA, Dr. Winfred Baah, said the action was taken to protect public health and ensure that only qualified and compliant facilities operate within Ghana\u2019s healthcare system.<\/p>\n<div class=\"google-anno-skip google-anno-sc\" tabindex=\"0\" role=\"link\" aria-label=\"Ghana Travel Guide\" data-google-vignette=\"false\" data-google-interstitial=\"false\">\u201cA few of the facilities have been very recalcitrant. They have not paid their administrative fines and have also failed to take steps to renew their licences. Once a facility is unlicensed, we cannot be certain about the competence of the personnel or the safety of the equipment used to provide care to patients,\u201d Dr. Baah explained.<\/div>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_shortcode\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-10\">He added that such lapses pose serious risks to public safety, leaving the agency with no choice but to shut down non-compliant facilities.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1371\">\u201cWhen that happens, we must intervene and close them down.
