The nomination was made in accordance with Article 144(1) of the 1992 Constitution, following the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.<\/p>\n<p>In a brief communication to Parliament on Tuesday, October 21, the Speaker said the House had received formal correspondence from the Presidency regarding the nomination and had, in line with parliamentary procedure, forwarded the matter to the Appointments Committee for further action.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, currently serving on the Supreme Court, is known for his long and distinguished judicial career. He has previously served at the High Court and the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_ad jeg_ad_article jnews_content_inline_2_ads  \">\n<div class=\"ads-wrapper align-center \">\n<div class=\"ads_shortcode\">\n<div class=\"a-single a-10\">The Presidency, in its earlier statement, described him as a jurist of \u201cunwavering commitment to justice\u201d whose \u201cinvaluable contributions to the development of Ghanaian jurisprudence\u201d make him well suited for the nation\u2019s highest judicial office.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Appointments Committee is expected to schedule a public vetting session in the coming days, after which a recommendation will be made to the full House for approval or otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>If confirmed by Parliament, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie will become Ghana\u2019s next Chief Justice, succeeding Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has officially referred the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Chief Justice of Ghana to Parliament\u2019s Appointments Committee for vetting.
