The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, says the Authority is ready to implement a 120 percent increase in service tariffs as soon as it receives approval from the NHIA Board and the Minister for Health.<\/p>\n
Dr. Bampoe explained that the proposed increase follows extensive technical work by a group of independent experts mandated to review tariffs under Sections 33 and 34 of the National Health Insurance Act, which require annual revisions of both medicines and service tariffs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we are thinking of is that we have done the work and we think that it should be 120 percent. We are proposing. It was done by a group of experts,\u201d he said on Channel One TV\u2019s\u00a0\u00a0The Point of View<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0on Wednesday November 26.<\/p>\n He noted that while the medicines tariff review has already been completed, the service tariff review\u2014initiated in 2022\u2014took longer due to its comprehensive nature. \u201cThere are two types of reviews that we need to do, but this was a really comprehensive one, so I think they could not finish on time and so it is now that they have finished,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n Dr. Bampoe stressed that implementation now depends solely on statutory approvals. \u201cNow it has to go to the Board for them to look at it and give their view on it.
