The Government of Ghana has strongly condemned the coordinated terrorist attacks that occurred in Mali over the weekend. The assaults reportedly led to the death of Mali\u2019s Defence Minister, General Sadio Camara. In response, Ghana has advised its traders and drivers to suspend travel to Mali until further notice.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on Sunday, April 27, 2026, Ghana\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed solidarity with the people and government of Mali following the deadly strikes on multiple military installations, including sites in the capital, Bamako.<\/p>\n

\u201cViolent extremism must have no place in our world, and we must step up collective efforts to end this horror,\u201d the government stated.<\/p>\n

The attacks, which targeted several strategic locations, are reported to have caused multiple casualties, including senior military officials and civilians. General Camara, a key figure in Mali\u2019s military leadership, is said to be among the dead. The incident ranks as one of the most significant security events in the Sahel region in recent months, where extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda and ISIS continue to operate amid ongoing political instability.<\/p>\n

Due to the worsening security situation, the Foreign Ministry has specifically advised Ghanaian traders and transport operators who regularly use the Mali route to halt their activities for now.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the Government of Mali takes necessary actions to control the situation, Ghanaian traders and drivers who ply the route for trading activities are advised to suspend movements until further notice,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

The Ministry also urged Ghanaians already living in Mali to exercise increased caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay in close contact with the Ghanaian Embassy in Bamako. The Ministry further noted that it is closely monitoring developments in Mali and coordinating with local authorities to ensure the safety of Ghanaian nationals.<\/p>\n

It added that further updates would be provided as the situation evolves and conditions become safe enough for cross-border commercial activities to resume. The government reiterated its commitment to protecting Ghanaian citizens abroad, stating that \u201ctheir security, safety and well-being remain paramount.\u201d<\/p>\n
