{"id":18209,"date":"2026-11-05T15:51:07","date_gmt":"2026-11-05T15:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=18209"},"modified":"2026-11-05T15:51:07","modified_gmt":"2026-11-05T15:51:07","slug":"martin-kpebu-disputes-orals-21-19bn-potential-recovery-figure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=18209","title":{"rendered":"Martin Kpebu disputes ORAL\u2019s $21.19bn potential recovery figure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Martin Kpebu, has disputed claims that the government could recover up to $21.19 billion from stolen state assets, saying the figure was not collectively established by the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Martin Kpebu said the amount announced by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa represented his personal assessment and had not been agreed upon by committee members.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking in an interview, he said the committee did not conduct an assessment that established the potential recovery figure.<\/p>\n<section class=\"cs-banner-entry cs-banner-post-inner alignfull\">\n<div class=\"cs-banner cs-banner-background\">\n<div class=\"cs-banner__container \"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>He stressed that neither he nor other members had endorsed the amount announced by Ablakwa, who chaired the committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us remember that the comment that was made (by Ablakwa) was a personal comment; it was not by the committee, it was one of our members who made the comment, and I didn\u2019t endorse it, nor did any of our members endorse it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not a collective decision. He (Ablakwa) said, \u201cIf we are successful,\u201d so it is a conditional clause, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Kpebu\u2019s comments follow Mr Ablakwa\u2019s announcement in February 2025 that Ghana could potentially recover $21.19 billion after reviewing 36 major cases involving high-value transactions and alleged losses of state assets through land-related dealings.<\/p>\n<p>Ablakwa said the estimated recovery could exceed the financial support Ghana had been seeking from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A former member of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, Martin Kpebu, has disputed claims that the government could recover up to $21.19 billion from stolen state assets, saying the figure was not collectively established by the committee.
