{"id":2960,"date":"2024-02-17T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-17T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=2960"},"modified":"2024-02-17T12:30:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-17T12:30:40","slug":"six-time-olympic-gold-medalist-chris-hoy-reveals-cancer-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=2960","title":{"rendered":"Six-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Hoy Reveals Cancer Diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Six-time\u00a0Olympic\u00a0gold medalist Chris Hoy has announced he has cancer, saying he is \u201coptimistic, positive and surrounded by love.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoy, 47, posted a&nbsp;statement on Instagram&nbsp;revealing he is undergoing chemotherapy after receiving his diagnosis last year, something he says \u201ccame as a huge shock, having had no symptoms up to that point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy heart goes out to the many others who are also going through similar challenges right now,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI\u2019m optimistic, positive and surrounded by love for which I\u2019m truly grateful. As you might imagine, the last few months have been incredibly difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHowever, I currently feel fine \u2013 I am continuing to work, ride my bike and live my life as normal. It\u2019s an exciting year of work ahead, not least with the Paris Olympics in July. I can\u2019t wait to get stuck in, have fun and share it with you all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-9de75f431874cf7e9ca4478eaf6717ff ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wB1l0wBm1Gg?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoy is one of Great Britain\u2019s most successful ever Olympians, dominating in the track cycling arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He made his Olympic debut at the Sydney Summer Games in 2000, winning his first Olympic medal with a silver in the men\u2019s team sprint event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoy\u2019s first gold came four years later in Athens as he finished first in the men\u2019s 1,000m time trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Beijing in 2008, Hoy was at the peak of his powers, winning three gold medals across the three separate disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he cemented his legacy as one of the greats of the sport on home soil at the London 2012 Games when he won two further golds in the keirin and team sprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon his retirement in 2013, he was Team GB\u2019s most successful ever Olympian with six gold medals. That mark has since been passed by Jason Kenny with seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoy also finished his career with 11 world championship medals, the first coming in 1999.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor the sake of my young family, I had hoped to keep this information private but regrettably our hand has been forced. While I\u2019m thankful for any support, I\u2019d like to deal with this privately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">British Cycling\u00a0paid tribute to Hoy on X\u00a0\u2013 formerly known as Twitter \u2013 saying: \u201cEveryone at British Cycling sends their love and best wishes to you and your family, Chris.
