{"id":4511,"date":"2024-04-01T10:14:13","date_gmt":"2024-04-01T10:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=4511"},"modified":"2024-04-01T10:14:15","modified_gmt":"2024-04-01T10:14:15","slug":"450000-free-student-tablets-ready-for-distribution-next-week-dr-yaw-adutwum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=4511","title":{"rendered":"450,000 free student tablets ready for distribution next week \u2013 Dr Yaw Adutwum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that the first batch of 450,000 free student tablets fully funded through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) will be distributed next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, the distribution of the tablets has been categorized into three phases, with 450,000 to be distributed to 32 schools to ensure the effective distribution of a total of 1.3 million tablets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Akufo-Addo announced on March 25 the distribution of 1.3 million tablets to public Senior High School and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, this initiative, under the Smart School Project is part of the government&#8217;s measures to ensure that all sectors of the country are digitised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on JoyNews\u2019 Newsfile on Saturday, March 30, the Education Minister said \u201cThe 450,000 is a little less than 30 per cent the deployment is such that it is in three phases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first phase which is hitting the regions and schools in the next coming week, is going to 32 schools in the 16 regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;He said a system has been created to monitor the effective distribution of the tablets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnce it gets to the school, there is a dashboard that informs us the tablets are here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-814b11b100bace17a13562b1537daac5 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lm5Lo2c07kE?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The whole idea is to ensure that you will do a phased approach to deployment and don\u2019t get the system overwhelmed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnce we get them to the 32 schools, then within a week or two thereafter the rest which is phase two also starts moving to the schools, so it\u2019s a phased deployment\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the student mate one tablet comes with a keyboard as a complement that can make it function as a laptop or solely as a tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s also a power bank in it, and in case the power goes out, there\u2019s a solar panel that allows you to charge it using solar in the case of this device. So, that is in response to the issue of erratic power supply at certain times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;The Minister explained that this is part of attempts in the future to gradually phase out textbooks by infusing them into the tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to him, ICT Coordinators in the schools have offered training to teachers and will continue to train the schools receiving the tablets on their effective usage.
