{"id":5604,"date":"2024-05-09T09:34:17","date_gmt":"2024-05-09T09:34:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=5604"},"modified":"2024-05-09T09:34:20","modified_gmt":"2024-05-09T09:34:20","slug":"train-accident-four-accused-persons-granted-gh%e2%82%b5800k-bail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=5604","title":{"rendered":"Train accident: Four accused persons granted GH\u20b5800K bail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Accra High Court has granted GH\u20b5200,000 bail each to four persons arrested for their alleged roles in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.adomonline.com\/?s=train+accident+\">train accident<\/a>&nbsp;at Abortia&nbsp;in the&nbsp;Volta Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court presided over by Justice Mrs Lydia Osei Marfo, ordered the accused: Koku Koudjo, a 34-year-old gas welder, Patrick Kwaku Sosu, a 52-year-old labourer, Alaza Prosper, a 28-year-old labourer, and Fiadugbe Emmanuel, a 31-year-old labourer, to provide sureties with justifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They must report to the police every Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court ordered the accused and their sureties to submit copies of their Ghana Cards to the Court\u2019s Registry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also warned the accused that if they failed to show up in court, their bail would be revoked, and should they arrive late, a bench warrant would be issued for their arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The matter has been adjourned to June 6, 2024, for prosecution to file their disclosures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accused persons have been charged with abetment of unlawful damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are accused of aiding Abel Dzidotor, a jailed truck driver, in causing unlawful damage to the Diesel Multiple Unit Train.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In granting them bail, the court noted that the investigations involving the accused were nearly completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the court, the damage caused could still be assessed even when the defendants were granted bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prosecution, led by Assistant State Attorney Christabel Selma Anafure, informed the court that the state had requested experts to examine the damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, she requested that the case be adjourned, and the accused remain remanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The defence counsel, led by Richard Laapo, brought to the court\u2019s attention a bail application made on behalf of the accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Laapo noted that the motion for bail had not been served on the Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the defence lawyer, the Republic\u2019s request for an adjournment should not prohibit the court from exercising its discretion and granting the accused bail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-0193d5e267186f89e326ae1ca7fa8364 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px;
