{"id":5989,"date":"2024-05-22T12:18:13","date_gmt":"2024-05-22T12:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=5989"},"modified":"2024-05-22T12:18:15","modified_gmt":"2024-05-22T12:18:15","slug":"economy-we-have-turned-the-corner-but-lets-not-be-complacent-akufo-addo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=5989","title":{"rendered":"Economy: We have turned the corner but let\u2019s not be complacent \u2013 Akufo-Addo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the government has turned the economy relative to the economic challenges following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He however cautioned against complacency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEven though we have turned the corner we should not be complacent,\u201d he said while calling on governing boards and Chief Executives of all state entities to embrace digitalisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president was speaking at the 11th Annual Conference of Chairpersons of Governing Boards\/Councils Chief Directors &amp; Chief Executives on Wednesday, May 22 at Kwahu-Nkwatia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Akufo-Addo stated at the event that the government is repositioning Ghana\u2019s public sector to embrace digital transformation for high efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He observed that digital technology offers unprecedented opportunities to enhance service delivery and improve citizens\u2019 engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To that end, the president has appealed to governing boards, and chief executives of all public entities to take the initiative to streamline their operations with the digitalization agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI make an appeal to all chairs of governing boards, and CEOs to welcome and initiate actions to digitalise their business operations,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, President Akufo-Addo said that Ghana\u2019s e-government infrastructure had made remarkable strides in the realms of fintech and financial inclusion and stands out as one of the best on the continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President believed that e-government initiatives, such as the Ghana Card, Ghana.gov portal and mobile money interoperability, had reshaped the landscape of public service delivery, and expanded financial inclusion to heights that were once thought unimaginable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-5bda00a04d9d1d35bca9cfb502a767da ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith some seventeen million of our fellow citizens now possessing a digital ID linking them seamlessly to the critical services they need to thrive in the modern world,\u201d he said, the Ghana.gov portal has facilitated transactions worth some GH\u00a21.6 billion since its inception in 2019, improving revenue collection, reducing corruption, and creating a more transparent and accountable system of governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Akufo-Addo added further that with transactions exceeding nine GH\u00a2900 billion annually, Ghana boasts one of the highest mobile money penetration rates in the world, which is further proof of the ingenuity and adaptability of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that, \u201cmobile money adoption has increased considerably with&nbsp; &nbsp;some 44 million accounts registered by the end of 2023, and transactions surpassing GH\u00a2 1 trillion\u201d whilst the \u201cpercentage of adults with access to financial services has risen from 58% in 2017 to some 80% in 2023, representing a remarkable achievement that has transformed countless lives and opened up new horizons of opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President spoke at the opening ceremony of the 3i Africa summit, on Monday, 13th May, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Centre, in Accra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Held under the theme, \u201cunleashing Africa\u2019s Fintech and Economic Potential\u201d, President Akufo-Addo said it resonates deeply with the aspirations and dreams of the continent, which makes the gathering \u201cnot just a meeting of brilliant minds but a resounding clarion call to action and a summons to each and every one of us to rise to the challenge and seize the momentous opportunities that lie ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur fintech regulatory environment has become a hotbed of innovation and competition, attracting the best and brightest minds from across the continent and beyond. And our digital lending platforms have disbursed billions of cedis in loans to micro, small, and medium enterprises, fueling job creation, economic growth, and the rise of a vibrant and dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He continued that, without resting on her laurels, Ghana is investing heavily in technology-driven education, vocational training, entrepreneurial development as well as fostering cross-border skills recognition, promoting digital literacy and ensuring that our young people have the confidence and capability to navigate the fintech landscape with ease and aplomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the potential of AfCFTA being a testament to the boundless opportunities it presents, he indicated that, the agreement is projected to increase intra-African trade by some 52% and unleash a wave of economic activity that will generate some $450 billion to Ghana\u2019s collective GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why, he was confident that through public-private partnerships and cross-border collaboration, Africa can create a seamless and efficient fintech ecosystem that aligns perfectly with AfCFTA\u2019s objective of a fully integrated, digital African economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called on participants of the summit to build a continent where borders are mere lines on a map, where digital innovation knows no bounds, and where the aspirations of every African can be realized in full, whilst coming together to create a future where the light of progress shines brightly, illuminating the way towards a brighter tomorrow for the continent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said that the government has turned the economy relative to the economic challenges following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
