Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has said the construction of the national cathedral, to which he said he has made a personal donation, \u201cis a very important thing for Ghana.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At a meeting with the clergy as part of his tour of the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, 4 June 2024, the New Patriotic Party flagbearer said: “The Church has to come together and meet the government so that we talk about the way forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added: \u201cThe Church must come together and let the government know the best way forward on how we can get private resources to help us complete the national cathedral\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Vice President believes \u201cif we all come together, we will figure it out because we cannot leave it where it is.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The stalled 5,000-seater edifice is meant to be President Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s show of gratitude to God for making him leader of the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project has, however, been bedevilled by allegations of corruption and malfeasance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the meeting, the Presiding Apostle and General Overseer of Freedom Chapel International Ministry, Mr Francis Amoako-Attah, urged the Vice President to do whatever he could to ensure the project came to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Your Excellency, maybe prophetically, the reason why that hole is still there is because God wants you to fulfil it,\u201d adding: \u201cIt’s going to be so prophetic that once upon a time, a temple was built and the president who dedicated a temple for the Christians was a Muslim.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Apostle Amoako-Attah encouraged the Vice President to do “everything within your power, together with the team, to bring the church and the government together,” suggesting: \u201cGive it to a private man; let them build it. Let them collect the money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his view, \u201cIt\u2019s going to be an indictment for Christianity and for this government to leave this bigger hole as it is forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
