{"id":6592,"date":"2024-06-20T09:30:34","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T09:30:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=6592"},"modified":"2024-06-20T09:30:37","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T09:30:37","slug":"private-clinics-cash-in-on-closure-of-renal-units-in-public-hospitals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=6592","title":{"rendered":"Private clinics cash in on closure of renal units in public hospitals"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Persons with kidney diseases are patronising services of private hospitals for dialysis following the closure of renal units in some hospitals.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although private hospitals charge more, some patients say they are assured of better services and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As grueling as it may sound, persons with kidney diseases have to endure dialysis at least twice every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And with the current challenges experienced at most public dialysis centers, preferences may have changed for many.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kwame (not his real name) traveled all the way from Cape Coast to Accra for dialysis, following the closure of the facility in his region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI came here because we had problem at our unit at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. There has been a problem of quality-of-service delivery. The facility is taking GHC660, T&amp;T in and out. With our condition, we\u2019re always tired and you can\u2019t join the trotro, you will opt for an Uber or private vehicle, so it\u2019s very expensive,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Private hospitals are seeing an influx of patients since the issues surrounding the renal units of public hospitals came to light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Administrator for the Providence Specialist Hospital here in Accra, Freda Mensah, says that although the hospital charges GHC660, more patients are trooping in for dialysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur number has increased and it\u2019s reasonable. Since Korle Bu increased their prices, it was an ideal thing for private hospital to also increase.
