{"id":7596,"date":"2024-08-06T09:34:32","date_gmt":"2024-08-06T09:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=7596"},"modified":"2024-08-06T09:34:38","modified_gmt":"2024-08-06T09:34:38","slug":"there-are-too-many-holidays-in-ghana-asah-asante","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=7596","title":{"rendered":"There are too many holidays in Ghana \u2013 Asah-Asante."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante has noted that Ghana has too many holidays.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his view, the number of holidays in Ghana is impeding economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has called for a review of the holidays and scrap those that are not needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are too many holidays in Ghana, let us review them and do away with those we don\u2019t need,\u201d he said on the Big Issue on TV3 Tuesday, August 6 while contributing to a discussion on the Founders Day celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further agreed with President Akufo-Addo that Ghana was not founded by one man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He states that others play a role in ensuring the independence of Ghana therefore Dr Kwame Nkrumah cannot be said to be the Founder of Ghana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-48d1bc8004dcef8459a578d56cadbccd ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qv7IRnJXU1Q?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 2024 Founders\u2019 Day address on Saturday, August 3, Mr Akufo-Addo objected to the assertion that Ghana was founded by Dr Kwame Nkrumah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2019, Parliament passed a law establishing August 4 as Founders\u2019 Day to honour the collective efforts of those who contributed to Ghana\u2019s independence struggle, while designating September 21 as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI speak to you this evening, rejecting completely, the notion that Ghana was founded by one man. While Kwame Nkrumah\u2019s contributions to our independence are undeniable, it is important to acknowledge for ourselves that respect that the struggle for our nation\u2019s freedom was a collective effort spanning several generations,\u201d the president said in his broadcast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe formation of the Aborigines Rights Protection, the British West African Nation Congress, the United Gold Coast Convention, the work of countless unsung heroes, and the tenacious spirit of our people all played vital parts in bringing us to freedom and independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cKwame Nkrumah with his charismatic visionary leadership was undoubtedly a major actor in the final lap of our journey to independence and that is why despite the several unfortunate things that happened after independence under his watch, Parliament in 2019, decided to memorialise his date of birth as Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, the only Ghanaian so far to be so honoured in our history,\u201d he argued that groups including Joseph Casely Hayford and Thomas Hutton-Mills\u2019 British West African Nation Congress and several others contributed to Ghana\u2019s freedom and subsequent independence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Kwame Asah-Asante has noted that Ghana has too many holidays.
