{"id":8216,"date":"2024-09-25T15:06:18","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T15:06:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=8216"},"modified":"2024-09-25T15:06:23","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T15:06:23","slug":"uae-surpasses-switzerland-as-leading-destination-for-ghanas-gold-exports-government-statistician","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=8216","title":{"rendered":"UAE surpasses Switzerland as leading destination for Ghana\u2019s gold exports \u2013 Government Statistician."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Government Statistician, Prof. Samuel Annim has noted that Asia remains Ghana\u2019s leading trade partner, contributing over half of the country\u2019s imports and nearly half of its exports in second quarter&nbsp; (Q2) of 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, September 24, he stated that between the Q2 of 2023 and Q2 2024, the share of imports from Europe dropped by 7.5 percent, while imports from Asia increased substantially by 8.5 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">China remained the primary source of Ghana\u2019s imports, contributing GH\u023c12.3billion \u2013 20.9 percent of total imports, followed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a value of GH\u023c9.1billion (15.4 percent) and the United Kingdom with an import value of GH\u023c5.2billion&nbsp; \u20138.8 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMore than a fifth of Ghana\u2019s import comes from China. This pattern has been consistent since 2021, with the exception of the first quarter of 2023. \u201cFor five out of the ten product classifications, the leading country of origin is China. Vegetable products are mainly imported from Vietnam. Gold\u2019s share of exports increased by about 10% from 47.5% in quarter 2 2023 to 57.6% in quarter 2 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-37e308048569c1a5e86d80b19bb65336 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/sAAtbrE4fuU?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UAE remained Ghana\u2019s top export destination, accounting for GH\u023c15billion, representing 23.3 percent of total exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switzerland followed closely with exports valued at GH\u023c13.2billion, representing 20.5 percent while South Africa ranked third, with exports amounting GH\u023c 8.3billion \u2013 12.9 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prof Annim added that in Q2 2024, the United Arab Emirates surpassed the United Kingdom as the leading source of mineral fuels and oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAsia and Europe are consistently Ghana\u2019s main export destinations, accounting for 73.9 percent of exports in Q2 2024. Asia remains the main export destination since overtaking Europe Q4 2023.
