{"id":9000,"date":"2024-11-26T10:24:56","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:24:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9000"},"modified":"2024-11-26T10:25:00","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:25:00","slug":"ato-forson-urges-bagbin-to-reject-afenyo-markins-request-to-recall-parliament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9000","title":{"rendered":"Ato Forson urges Bagbin to reject Afenyo-Markin\u2019s request to recall Parliament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Minority Leader Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has pleaded with the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to reject a call by the Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to recall the House.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says that this is the fourth time in 2024 alone that the NPP parliamentary caucus is requesting an urgent recall of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At each of the previous urgent meetings, he said, many of the businesses stated as \u201cso-called\u201d urgent Government Business were abandoned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The House was adjourned indefinitely on November 7, when Speaker Bagbin suspended proceedings due to the absence of a prepared agenda from the Business Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-c5a8054b92da0694898618eb395e9482 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7QIGpt4iDEc?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alexander Afenyo-Markin later urged Speaker Bagbin to exercise his constitutional mandate under Standing Orders 57(3) and 58(4) to reconvene Parliament to address the outstanding business of the House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a memo to the speaker, Dr Ato Forson said that \u201cRt. Hon. Speaker, the petitioner\u2019s request is premised on an appeal to you to exercise your discretion to recall Parliament to consider what they have termed \u201chigh priority\u201d government business. They proceeded to enumerate the said businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRespectfully, Mr. Speaker, we wish to submit that based on the petitioner\u2019s own request, you are not obliged to recall Parliament.
