{"id":9010,"date":"2024-11-26T10:46:46","date_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:46:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9010"},"modified":"2024-11-26T10:46:49","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T10:46:49","slug":"even-if-you-bring-jesus-as-ec-chair-ndc-will-complain-hackman-owusu-agyeman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9010","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Even if you bring Jesus as EC Chair, NDC will complain\u2019 \u2013 Hackman Owusu-Agyeman"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chairman of the NPP National Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, has criticised the opposition NDC for what he describes as a chronic tendency to challenge electoral processes and outcomes regardless of circumstances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on Joy News\u2019&nbsp;<em>PM Express<\/em>&nbsp;on Monday, November 26, the veteran politician said the NDC\u2019s posture threatens to undermine Ghana\u2019s democratic progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"ose-youtube ose-uid-c5a8054b92da0694898618eb395e9482 ose-embedpress-responsive\" style=\"width:400px; height:400px; max-height:400px; max-width:100%; display:inline-block;\" data-embed-type=\"Youtube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7QIGpt4iDEc?feature=oembed&color=red&rel=0&controls=1&start=&end=&fs=0&iv_load_policy=0&autoplay=0&mute=0&modestbranding=0&cc_load_policy=1&playsinline=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; encrypted-media;accelerometer;autoplay;clipboard-write;gyroscope;picture-in-picture clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen referrerpolicy=\"origin\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t like the opposition\u2019s posture, and they keep saying that if they don\u2019t win, then something has happened,\u201d the former Foreign Minister lamented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBelieve me, if you bring Jesus Christ from heaven to come and become the Electoral Commissioner, they will still complain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former New Juaben MP expressed concern over the NDC\u2019s persistent accusations against the Electoral Commission, stating that such allegations erode public trust in the democratic process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese complaints are not helping anybody, and these threats and what have you are not helping nobody,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He linked the NDC\u2019s combative stance to broader dysfunctions in Ghana\u2019s political institutions, including Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis has permeated society to the extent that even at our legislative organisation, i.e., in Parliament, things are not working the way we expect them to work,\u201d Mr Owusu-Agyeman noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey owe it to us for Parliament to work\u2014it\u2019s for the people; it\u2019s not their property. It\u2019s not the property of the Speaker; it\u2019s the property of the people of Ghana. They must listen to us and move on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reflecting on his aspirations for Ghana, Mr Owusu-Agyeman expressed frustration over the country\u2019s political challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSometimes, in my quiet moments, I feel like crying,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I worked for the United Nations for 20 years, I left as chief, and at the expense of sounding immodest, I would have been the Director-General of the FAO.
