{"id":9490,"date":"2025-01-10T09:16:58","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T09:16:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9490"},"modified":"2025-01-10T09:17:37","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T09:17:37","slug":"energy-minister-designate-orders-halt-on-ecg-payments-to-all-suppliers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fishfmonline.com\/?p=9490","title":{"rendered":"Energy Minister designate orders halt on ECG payments to all suppliers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Incoming Energy Minister, John Jinapor, has taken a decisive step to address the ongoing challenges facing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). <\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"inline-single-ad ad_single_index alignfull\">\n<div class=\"ad-wrap ad-script-wrap\">\n<div class=\"ad-script non-adsense edge-padding\">\n<div id=\"vocalize-container\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In an interview on Citi FM on Thursday, January 9, Jinapor revealed that he has instructed ECG to immediately suspend all payments for supplies.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, this is aimed at curbing significant revenue losses within the company.<\/p>\n<p>He further highlighted the difficulty in managing over 70 accounts, leading to a lack of control and significant financial leakages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Because if ECG loses over 40% of its power generated, no matter what you do, you cannot find a solution,<\/em>\u201d Jinapor emphasized. \u201c<em>Other countries are doing just about 2-4% losses<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Minister-Designate warned ECG staff, particularly those in the finance directorate, that there would be \u201cserious consequences\u201d for any disregard of this directive. He stressed the need to streamline operations and improve efficiency within ECG to ensure the stability of the power sector.<\/p>\n<p>Jinapor reiterated the need for private sector involvement to address the challenges facing ECG.<\/p>\n<p>He stated, \u201c<em>We don\u2019t even want to wait until I am sworn in.
