Renowned Ghanaian musician and multiple Grammy Awards nominee, Rocky Dawuni, have shared valuable advice for fellow artists in the music industry. In a recent interview, he cautioned against the obsession with producing chart-topping hits and instead encouraged musicians to concentrate on honing their craft and improving their lyrical content.

Dawuni, a 54-year-old musical icon, stressed the importance of long-term relevance in the music industry, suggesting that a fixation on achieving immediate hits might lead to songs that are quickly forgotten. He remarked, “Focus on your craft and work on your lyrics. You can’t always be enamored by hits. Hits are today, and tomorrow are forgotten if [they don’t] have something really integral to the song.”

Elaborating on his point, Dawuni called for a more comprehensive and meaningful approach to songwriting, emphasizing the significance of creating music with a lasting impact. “I always try to say that we should work hard to create a holistic approach to songwriting and let our words mean something,” he stated.

Recently, Rocky Dawuni’s lyrics from his song “Walls Tumbling Down” gained recognition when they were incorporated into a speech delivered by Barbadian Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
