In a bid to purge the public sector of phantom employees, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General of Ghana, issues a stern warning to workers who have yet to link their Ghana cards to the payroll system.

Addressing attendees at the annual Controller and Accountant-General’s Department conference in Kumasi, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem underscores the necessity of innovative financial management strategies to ensure a dependable payroll system.

The initiative to synchronize National Identification Authority (NIA) numbers with the payroll database commenced two years ago, with enforcement now in full swing.

Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem stresses that individuals lacking a Ghana card will imminently face pay disconnection.

Moreover, in cases where an individual’s NIA card is misplaced, their number will still be traceable in the database, allowing for verification via physical examination.

During the conference, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), underscores the importance of collective action to combat corruption.

Expressing dismay over the static Corruption Perception Index over the past four years, COP Addo-Danquah advocates for heightened measures to bolster the perception of corruption.

She urges vigilance among all citizens, emphasizing the obligation to report any suspicious activities, as she believes the fight against corruption necessitates the involvement of every individual, not just institutions.

In attendance at the conference is Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, representing Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Osei-Mensah lauds the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department for its substantial strides and underscores the pivotal role of technology and innovation in the accounting and finance sector.

This directive by the Controller and Accountant General of Ghana underscores the nation’s dedication to enhancing transparency and accountability within the public sector, with anticipated positive implications for Ghana’s financial management practices.
