The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the government has secured GH₵110 million in funding to operationalise the Adwumawura Programme this year.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, August 4, he said the allocation, made by the Ministry of Finance under the directive of President John Dramani Mahama, signals a strong commitment to empowering Ghana’s youth through job creation and entrepreneurship.

“In further demonstration of the government’s unwavering support for youth empowerment, an amount of GH₵110 million has been allocated this year for the nationwide rollout of the Adwumawura Programme. This financial backing sends a strong message that we are not merely announcing intentions, we are investing in the future of young people and resetting the country,” he stated.

The Adwumawura Programme, which was officially launched by President Mahama on April 28 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi, is a flagship initiative aimed at tackling youth unemployment and fostering innovation.

The programme seeks to create, mentor, and support at least 10,000 businesses each year, targeting young Ghanaians between the ages of 18 and 35. Beneficiaries will receive tailored support, including entrepreneurship training, access to startup capital, equipment, and business mentorship.

Mr. Opare Addo emphasised that the initiative goes beyond job creation, aiming to build sustainable enterprises that will contribute to national development while unlocking the potential of Ghana’s youthful population.
