Eight men have been convicted after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and assault in connection with violent attacks during the Ablekuma North parliamentary re-run on July 11, 2025. The convicts — Mohammed Abubakari, Tijani Mahmudu, Prince Dzakpasu, Anas Mohammed, Mohammed Hamda, Darko Otibu Samuel, Musah Muntari, and Ali Saeed, also known as “Bomba” — appeared before His Honour Isaac Addo at the Circuit Court in Accra, where they admitted their roles in the incident. The victims included Hawa Mavis Koomson, former Minister of State and former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). According to the prosecution, the violence occurred at the Methodist Church Polling Station, where the complainants were monitoring proceedings. Without provocation, the accused first attacked Hawa Koomson and Saana, before turning on Chris Lloyd. The accused were charged with conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). All eight pleaded guilty and were duly convicted. However, sentencing has been deferred to Friday, August 29, 2025. In the meantime, the court granted each of the convicts bail in the sum of GH¢80,000 with one surety.
