Assin Central Member of Parliament and former NPP Presidential Candidate hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has thrown his support behind Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, known as NAPO, as the perfect running mate for NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Speaking to Bantama Constituency delegates ahead of the NPP primaries, Agyapong praised NAPO’s positive rapport with the party and asserted that his selection would rejuvenate NPP’s energy for victory in the 2024 elections.

Agyapong stated, “If anybody else asks me to campaign for him or her to be selected as running mate, I won’t, except Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.” The endorsement aligns with the grassroots sentiment favoring a running mate from the Ashanti Region, where NAPO has established strong connections.

Political analysts suggest that NAPO’s grassroots ties and exemplary performance as Minister for Education and Energy make him a potential candidate to help Dr. Bawumia attract floating voters. Rumors circulate that Dr. Bawumia is preparing to submit his running mate’s name to the NPP National Council following the January 27, 2024, primaries.

In related news, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has filed his nomination for re-election as the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Manyhia South in Kumasi, marking his fifth bid for the position. In a Facebook post on December 20, he expressed gratitude to NPP members for their unwavering support.
