The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has issued a statement expressing its lack of awareness regarding the decision by Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger to withdraw from the regional organization.

The announcement, which was reportedly made on the National Televisions of Mali and Niger, has not been formally communicated to ECOWAS.

As per a press release dated January 28, the ECOWAS Commission clarified that it has not received any official notification from the three member states regarding their intention to withdraw from the community.

Emphasizing the importance of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger as members, ECOWAS reiterated its commitment to working with these countries for the restoration of constitutional order, in line with the directives of the Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The ECOWAS Commission assured that Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali remain integral members of the community, and the Authority remains dedicated to finding a negotiated solution to the political impasse.

The organization pledged to provide further updates as the situation evolves, leaving the international community eager to understand the unfolding dynamics within the West African region.
