The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has urged Civil Servants to vote for a government that will be committed to upholding the integrity of the Service in the forthcoming elections.

Isaac Bampoe-Addo, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, emphasised this during a news conference held to commemorate this year’s May Day celebrations in Accra.

Dr. Bampoe-Addo highlighted the crucial role of the Civil Service in facilitating government operations.

However, he expressed concern over the trend of appointing party loyalists into the Service, which has eroded its neutrality and permanence.

“The people in the Civil Service should vote a government that will uphold integrity, anonymity and permanence in the Civil Service. We will also resist any attempt by any government to appoint political apparatchiks and goro boys into the Service,” he noted.

The Executive Secretary emphasised a 2017 Supreme Court ruling stating that the Civil Service must remain apolitical and its members non-partisan.

“While it is their right, the open manifestation of their partisan affiliations will not augur well for the service,” he added.

Dr. Bampoe-Addo also urged Civil Servants to vote for a government that will uphold the integrity of the Service as part of commemorating this year’s May Day celebration.

The theme for this year’s May Day celebration is “Election 2024 – The role of workers and social partners in securing peaceful elections for national development.”
