The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has issued a rallying cry for vigilance to safeguard Ghana’s democratic process as the nation prepares for the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for December 7.

This call to action comes as part of the culmination of his 25th anniversary since ascending to the Golden Stool as its 16th occupant.

He emphasised the critical importance of maintaining a stable and peaceful environment during, before and after the elections.

Addressing the public on Sunday, May 12, the Asantehene underscored the vital role of a tranquil atmosphere in empowering citizens to make informed decisions for the betterment of the nation. Against the backdrop of ongoing political campaigns, he highlighted the significance of safeguarding democracy amidst the heightened political fervor.

In his address, the Asantehene cautioned against complacency, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance to prevent any actions that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

“This year is another election year. Our political leaders are already on a campaign trail and intend many months of combating campaigning ahead.

“After all our past experiences, we should make sure that our democracy is saved,” he stated.

“Nonetheless, we need to know that we cannot take things for granted. We must be alert to avoid anything that will derail the electoral process.

“People need the right environment where they can make informed choices in the interest of the nation,” he stated.
