The National Peace Council has called on Ghanaians to guard jealously, the peace and security currently being enjoyed in the country as the December 7, 2024 general elections approach.

Speaking at the launch of the National Election Response Group (NERG), board member for the Peace Council, Maulvi Mohammed Bin Salih, entreated state agencies handling the electoral affairs to work independently to ensure peace is attained before, during and after the elections.

According to him, peace is the ultimate in getting socio-economic acceleration as a country.

The NERG aims to discuss, develop and recommend response strategies to violent threats to the December 7 general elections.

The group is mainly expected to be a source of information on the impact and progress of WANEP national early warning system in the country.

The Electoral Commission on its part assured of its full commitment to ensure a free, fair and transparent election devoid of violence.

Deputy Commissioner in charge of Technical Services at the Commission, Samuel Tettey gave the assurance.
