This year’s BOMA of Africa, a joint initiative by AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions, is set to take place at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

The landmark event highlighting Africa’s strides toward the ambitious Agenda 2063 will take place on July 20th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. GMT.

The event, which will be live on Zoom, will occur on the sidelines of the African Union’s 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting to take place in Ghana’s capital.

Under the theme “From the Africa We Want to the Africa We Build,” the 2024 edition of BOMA of Africa will celebrate the radical ideas and actions driving Africa forward. This festival of innovation and unity will feature debates, discussions, and announcements of groundbreaking initiatives that exemplify the milestones of African integration and development.

The BOMA of Africa has become a premier platform for showcasing the continent’s most inspirational achievements in unity and integration. Convened at the highest level, the event aims to move beyond discussions to concrete actions, inspiring Africans across various fields such as science, technology, education, the creative arts, and entrepreneurship.

AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions, alongside other strategic partners, have hosted this annual event during African Integration Week since 2019. This year’s BOMA will align with the Mid-Year Coordination Meeting, further cementing its significance on the continent’s commemorative calendar.

In a world marked by geopolitical shifts, technological advancements, conflicts, and economic turbulence, Africa’s strategic blueprint, Agenda 2063, has become urgent and necessary. The BOMA of Africa serves as a high point for showcasing and celebrating strategic developments on this roadmap, providing a platform to mobilize support for peace, security, and development.

AUDA-NEPAD’s pivotal role in implementing Agenda 2063 is underscored by its co-hosting of the 2024 BOMA with AfroChampions. This collaboration demonstrates a deep commitment to mobilizing the continent for significant action and sustained progress.

The 2024 BOMA of Africa aims to:

  1. Showcase major projects and initiatives shaping Africa’s emergence as a global force, such as AUDA-NEPAD’s Energize Africa, the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), and the Agenda 2063 Dashboard.
  2. Present the 2nd Sankoree lecture by an eminent international change-maker, addressing Africa’s positioning in the global system.
  3. Introduce the maiden 2024 Sankoree Awards, celebrating leaders who have advanced Africa’s integration.
  4. Generate high-quality policy and resource mobilization inputs for artificial intelligence, biomedical innovation, and digital trade.
  5. Validate the trillion-dollar framework for supporting SMEs, value chain enablers, and infrastructure developers through innovative financing mechanisms.
  6. Strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships for regulatory and policy harmonization, supporting AfCFTA and PIDA.

BOMA 2024 will honor distinguished leaders whose visionary efforts have advanced regional integration and AUDA-NEPAD’s mission. Among the honorees are H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt; H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda; H.E. Macky Sall, Former President of the Republic of Senegal; Madame Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Former Chairperson of the African Union Commission; and Mr. Gervais Koffi Djondo, Co-founder and former Chairman of EcoBank, Founding President of ASKY Airlines.

The 2024 BOMA of Africa is more than an event; it is a strategic milestone on the path to achieving the Africa We Want. AUDA-NEPAD and AfroChampions reaffirm their unwavering commitment to the goals of Agenda 2063, setting a precedent for accountability, innovation, and unity across the continent.

This year’s theme, “From the Africa We Want to the Africa We Build,” encapsulates the essence of Africa’s journey. Through focused discussions on health, wealth creation, development financing, and governance, BOMA 2024 aims to ignite new momentum towards realizing Africa’s continental aspirations. By spotlighting major projects and initiatives, the event fosters a spirit of collaboration and determination.
