Former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo has said that even though President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo deserves credit for establishing anti-corruption bodies, his fight against corruption has been abysmal.

Mr Domelovo asserted that while setting up ant-graft bodies is good, it is not enough to fight corruption if the president does not take proactive steps such as ensuring that his appointees do not use their positions to acquire state properties.

“It[ the fight against corruption] is very abysmal, he is not fighting corruption… I will credit him for establishing anti-corruption bodies but that is not enough. I think he can be more proactive in finding out how many government appointees have acquired state properties. If he is able to do that then we will say that his man is serious, ” Mr Domelevo said on TV 3’s Keypoints today, Saturday July 20, 2024 while commenting on Afrobarometer’s Report on Corruption.

He added that to effectively fight corruption, there must be consequences no matter who is involved.

“What I expect is it doesn’t matter who is involved. There must be consequences for corruption and he [the President] should also make anti corruption institutions independent and strong,” he added.

The lastest Afrobarometer Report on Corruption in Africa says that the canker is getting worse and more Africans believe that their governments are failing in the fight.
