The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey has disapproved of the demolishing of the Fantasy Dome by some authorities eight months after the exercise was conducted.

The Fantasy Dome was dismantled in March 2024 to make way for construction work at the Trade Fair site.

According to the Deputy Tourism Minister, a more lenient approach could have been applied rather than a complete dismantle of the property.

He said there were no express instruction from authorities for such an action, describing the destruction of the property as “unfair” to its owner, Leslie Quaynor.

“I do not think that leadership gave instructions that they should do what happened. Because if you meant well, [the structure was a] prefab. Just dismantle the man’s property. But I hear the people destroyed it. That one, we cannot defend it. It is unfair, it was unfair to him. If it meant well, it should have been done well. Sometimes, you give instructions and people will go and do things that will make you look bad,” he said in an interview on Daybreak Hitz, November 21.

When asked what sanctions were applied to persons who caused the destruction of the Dome, he responded that the Trade Fair is outside the purview of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

However, Mark Okraku-Mantey reaffirmed that he had contacted owner of the Dome, Leslie Quaynor to discuss finding a new location for it before it was demolished.

He disclosed that he had wanted to offer Leslie a place at the National Museum unfortunately, the Dome was too large for the location.
