Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been officially declared the winner of the Tema Central parliamentary seat following a recollation of the results.

The declaration came after a brief pause in the recollation process, triggered by the absence of representatives from all political parties, which led the Returning Officer to temporarily halt proceedings.

Tensions had risen earlier when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Ebi Bright, demanded a full re-collation of votes from all polling stations, as stipulated by a court order. She called for the process to start from scratch, rather than continuing from the point it had previously stopped.

Bright, accompanied by South Dayi MP Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, voiced their dissatisfaction with the Electoral Commission’s decision not to fully recollate the votes.

The disagreement culminated in NDC representatives storming out of the collation center in protest, leading to the temporary suspension of the exercise.

Despite the dispute, Forson’s victory was eventually confirmed after the process resumed, bringing clarity to the final result.
