President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday morning met with Ghana’s top security chiefs in Accra ahead of his planned peace-building visits to Bawku and Nalerigu. The high-level meeting, held at Jubilee House, brought together the heads of the country’s security agencies, including the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the National Security Council, among others. President Mahama is visiting Bawku and Nalerigu on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as part of his government’s renewed commitment to promoting dialogue and achieving lasting peace in conflict-prone areas

The President is expected to engage with conflict factions and key stakeholders to foster peace in the region The engagement with security chiefs forms part of President Mahama’s efforts to prioritise peacebuilding in Bawku, which has been a hotspot of ethno-political conflict for decades. The Bawku conflict, primarily between the Kusasis and Mamprusis, has claimed numerous lives and displaced many residents, stifling socio-economic progress in the region. President Mahama’s latest intervention is expected to build on previous peace efforts while introducing new strategies to address the underlying issues
