Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has warned that any violence linked to chieftaincy disputes in the region will be met with firm action.

Speaking at the maiden 2025 General Meeting of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Mr Akwaboa urged chieftaincy litigants to seek peaceful resolution through the courts or judicial committee of the regional house of chiefs to resolve chieftaincy cases.

He emphasised that chieftaincy matters should be settled legally, and warned that any actions that break the law would face consequences.

“Chiefs are mandated to fix chieftancy cases to such litigations should go through judicial committee or the court,

“As REGSEG chairman, I will use my authority during my tenure to deal with anyone per law who, through chieftaincy conflict, fights and kills people because we need peace in the Bono Region to work,” Mr Akwaboa said.

The President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, expressed the house’s support for the Minister’s stance. “We assure the Minister of our utmost cooperation from the house in the discharge of his duties,” he said.

The Dormahene lamented the lack of development in the Region especially roads connecting Brekum, Sampa and Wenchi. He however applauded the Minister on his stand on illegal mining in the region.

“The chiefs are grateful to you for your stand on illegal mining in the region that has been our position too. Because what becomes of us with the mercury, cyanide and others damaging our land. Everybody needs to be stopped including me if I am involved in galamsey,” he stated.

In response, the Minister assured the chiefs the narrative of the youths’ unemployment would change before the end of President Mahama’s term. He assured the measures to fix the abundant and deplorable roads in the region to drive development.

“I have a promise from Accra that from UENR to Poly roundabout, Alaska to new Dorma and beyond will be done before President Mahama ends his term,“ the Minister stated.

The Minister also stated that fixing the Sampa to Wenchi road will unlock job opportunities, especially for cashew farmers in the area.

“If we fix the Sampa to Wenchi road, it will open the region to jobs due to the cashew in those areas. And very soon the constructors will be on site,“ he said.

The Minister was also installed as a member of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, taking on the title of Nana Kwadwo Akuaboa the 20th.
