A gold dealer identified as Awal has allegedly been shot dead by unknown gunmen at Konongo Low Cost in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at about 8:15 p.m., while the victim was returning home from work.

Confirming the incident to Citi News on Thursday, August 14, the Assembly Member for the Amerfa Kyekyewere Electoral Area, Samuel Baiden, said the assailants traced Awal to his residence and opened fire on him.

According to Baiden, the gunmen escaped with a bag that the deceased reportedly used to store money and gold

He has since called on the government and security agencies to strengthen security in the area to help prevent such violent attacks in the future.
