The Chief of Akyem Wenchi, Daasebere Dr. Assumadu Nyarko Appiah, has strongly cautioned against any form of electoral violence in the upcoming Akwatia by-election, stressing that the constituency must never again be associated with political disturbances.
He disclosed that he had personally cautioned both National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidates, as well as sub-chiefs, to advise their supporters against engaging in confrontations.
Daasebere Dr. Assumadu Nyarko Appiah made the call when the Chief of Staff and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to his palace at Akyem Wenchi on Sunday, August 24. He urged all stakeholders to embrace peace before, during, and after the polls.
“When you return, inform your people that this election is not about violence. Cast your vote for who you prefer and return home peacefully. Urge the pastors and the Muslims to preach peace ahead of the Akwatia by-election so that there will be peace,” he said.
He also cautioned residents of the constituency to avoid crowding at collation centres on election day, unless they have an official role to play.
“If you don’t vote in Akwatia, don’t go there. You have no business there; allow just the party agents to do their work. Go home when you cast your vote,” the Chief emphasised.
On his part, the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, assured the chiefs and people of Akwatia of the government’s commitment to deliver the needed development to the constituency.
“We thank you for welcoming us, and we promise you that we will not disappoint you,” he stated.
