Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has dismissed claims by the Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, that government efforts led to a reduction in DStv subscription prices, insisting the changes are merely part of the company’s marketing promotion.
Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, Mr. Mohammed said there has been no structural change in DStv’s pricing, describing the Minister’s claim of success as “misleading and baseless.”
“Sam George’s effort yielded no results. Go to the DStv site if it was not a promotion. What they are doing, I tell you, is a promotion for them to get people to come and patronise the DStv package of DStv, which they have been doing consistently,” he said.
Mr. Mohammed further explained that the current subscription offers are part of DStv’s regular marketing strategy and not a permanent price cut, adding that the campaign is temporary and subject to review after three months.
“The price of the package on my DStv portal is still the same amount; nothing has changed. It remains a promotion, and after three months, they will decide whether to continue the promotion or to stop it. That’s what is happening in the marketing circle,” he noted.
Sam George, had earlier announced that starting October 1, 2025, DStv customers in Ghana would receive major value upgrades across all subscription packages, following a landmark agreement between the government and MultiChoice Africa.
He indicated that the new value offering exceeds the government’s expectations, with Ghanaian subscribers set to receive between 33% and 50% more value depending on their bouquet.
