The government is set to deploy 5,000 graduates in the agriculture and veterinary fields to support its flagship Feed Ghana Programme across the country.
This move aims to channel research findings into practical solutions and provide modern extension services to enhance agricultural productivity.
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang announced this at the 2025 Asogli Yam Festival held in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 5.
In her address, she underscored the importance of the Feed Ghana Programme in tackling major challenges such as unpredictable rainfall patterns, post-harvest losses, and lack of access to markets.
She assured the public of the government’s commitment to promoting vegetable farming in the region, including the provision of greenhouse technology, irrigation systems, and other critical agricultural interventions.
“This year under the Ministry of Agriculture, the Feed Ghana Programme is being rolled out with tangible support including significant allocations that have been made to agriculture in 2025. Supporting programmes like the Vegetable Development Project and the famous ‘Nkok) Nkititi’ poultry.
“This also includes 5000 graduates in agriculture and veterinary science who will be deployed across the country including the Volta region to work side by side with farmers providing modern extension services, sharing new techniques and helping bridge research and practice,” she stated.
To encourage increased youth involvement in farming and veterinary services, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stated that the Government is prioritising the establishment of credit facilities and agribusiness training programmes in the Volta Region.
She also touted the celebration of the Yam Festival as a platform for promoting youth engagement in agriculture and recognising outstanding farmers.
