Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has expressed concern over growing tensions between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), warning that the rivalry is undermining development efforts in the region.

According to Dr. Amoakohene, strained relations between the two sets of local leaders have slowed the execution of key projects and disrupted coordination at the district level.

Speaking to journalists in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, 2025, he described the situation as unhealthy and called for stronger collaboration to ensure the smooth implementation of government initiatives across the Ashanti Region.

“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he said.

Dr. Amoakohene further noted that in several districts, poor communication between MPs and DCEs has created unnecessary friction and confusion, delaying important development programmes.

“In some of the districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he added.

The Minister urged both MPs and DCEs to prioritise cooperation over competition to accelerate progress and deliver on the government’s development agenda for the region.
