Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Joshua Krakue, in charge of the Elubo Command, has reassured Ghanaians that border operations remain normal despite reports that over 1,500 Ivorians have crossed into the country to escape election-related unrest in Côte d’Ivoire.

Speaking on Joy News, DCI Krakue said all surveillance systems are operational and capable of detecting individuals with suspected terrorist connections.

“But for now, everything is fine at the border. If the situation remains like this, our usual control is being maintained. And of course, we have also heightened the checks… our machines can detect elements that have terrorist connections,” he said.

He added that in the event of a mass influx, the immigration authorities would organise arrivals in groups to allow adequate screening of all individuals, including vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly, alongside any suspected criminals.

Côte d’Ivoire’s general election scheduled for October 25 this year.
