The Coalition of Unpaid Teachers has warned that it will pursue legal action if the government fails to address its outstanding demands by the end of January.
The group emphasised that it does not see the government’s failure to act as neglect, but rather as a lack of priority given to their concerns.
Their demands include the payment of arrears, issuance of remaining staff IDs, and the inclusion of missing names on both the master list and the revalidation list.
Addressing the media on Monday, January 5, Convener Enoch Kofi Nartey acknowledged the challenges facing the education sector but noted that these competing issues have resulted in unpaid teachers’ concerns not being prioritised or adequately addressed.
“When you employ someone, it is a contract and an agreement, and if you do not pay the person for some months, the person has the right to go through the legal procedures for his or her issues to be addressed.
“We will seek legal consultation and take it from there, if the government does not address our concern this January,” Nartey said.
