The Minister for Government Communications, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, has disclosed that Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson will address the nation on Thursday, February 12, to unveil new measures agreed by Cabinet to tackle challenges in the cocoa sector.
The announcement follows an emergency Cabinet meeting convened to assess pressing issues confronting the industry.
“At 11 a.m. tomorrow, the Finance Minister will address the people of Ghana and announce these far-reaching measures as agreed upon at the end of the Cabinet meeting today,” Mr. Ofosu stated.
He explained that the emergency session focused on urgent matters, including delayed payments to cocoa farmers and structural reforms within the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
“Decisive measures have been agreed upon regarding expedited payment of cocoa farmers, the implementation of the most drastic reforms in the cocoa sector, and achieving quantum leaps in domestic processing of cocoa as opposed to exports of raw materials,” he added.
In recent weeks, farmers across several cocoa-growing regions have raised concerns over unpaid monies for beans supplied since late 2025, heightening pressure on government to act swiftly.
