The Resident Country Director of International Investments LLC, Ibrahim Adjei, has stated that the government will rely on factories established under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s One District One Factory (1D1F) programme to support the implementation of its 24-hour economy policy.
The 24-hour economy is one of the flagship policies of the administration of John Dramani Mahama, designed to enable businesses to operate around the clock, boost productivity, and create jobs across multiple sectors.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Monday, March 9, Adjei said the factories established under the 1D1F programme now serve as a key operational base for the government’s round-the-clock economic activities.
“Right now, the NDC is saying they want to do a 24-hour economy, and they would be looking at the client base, which is the 1D1F that President Akufo-Addo and the NPP brought into fruition,” he said.
According to him, the 1D1F initiative under the NPP saw the start of 321 factories, of which 170 are currently operational. He added that the initiative directly employs 24,621 Ghanaians, while the wider value chain supports about 124,000 people.
He said the existing factories now form the backbone the government would rely on to implement its 24-hour economy, providing the infrastructure and industrial base needed to expand production and employment.
Currently, President John Dramani Mahama has signed the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill into law, paving the way for the full implementation of the government’s flagship economic policy.
The newly enacted law establishes a 24-Hour Economy Authority, which will serve as the central coordinating body for the nationwide rollout of the policy.
