President John Mahama has cut short his official visit to France and returned to Ghana ahead of an emergency cabinet meeting scheduled for today, which will focus on the rising cost of fuel. The gathering is expected to explore measures aimed at shielding Ghanaians from the impact of escalating fuel prices—largely driven by ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The government is seeking immediate steps to ease the financial strain on households and businesses.
While in France, President Mahama co-chaired the 2026 One Health Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron. The event brought together global leaders to discuss joint strategies for addressing challenges related to health, the environment, and sustainability. On the sidelines, Mahama held bilateral talks with Macron, where they explored ways to strengthen Ghana–France cooperation, with an emphasis on economic partnerships, energy, and broader development initiatives.
Today’s emergency cabinet meeting is expected to outline concrete actions to stabilise fuel prices and mitigate their impact on Ghana’s economy, as the government responds to the unfolding global situation.
