Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has expressed his readiness to debate former President John Dramani Mahama, asserting his willingness to engage in the debate even with National Democratic Congress’ National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia as the moderator and the venue being either the NDC’s headquarters or Mahama’s office.

This, according to the National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye is a bold declaration that underscores Dr. Bawumia’s confidence in discussing key issues and policies head-to-head with Mahama.

He stressed that this emphasizes Dr Bawumia’s commitment to transparency and open dialogue.

By accepting such terms, Dr. Bawumia aims to demonstrate his readiness to address the concerns of Ghanaians and engage in a meaningful exchange of ideas, regardless of the setting.

Mr Boakye issued this respond to Mahama statement that the Institute of Economic Affairs, the organisers of the Presidential Debate are favouring the NPP on his Facebook wall dated July 19, 2024.

The Mahama 2024 Campaign condemned the recent announcement by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana, regarding a presidential debate for the 2024 elections.

A statement signed by the Mahama 2024 Campaign spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari said it is completely unacceptable that the IEA would make such an announcement without engaging or informing the National Democratic Congress, one of the major political parties in Ghana

It noted that the Constitution of Ghana does not grant the IEA any authority to organise elections-related activities.

The statement noted that the fact that the IEA has not shown the decency or respect to at least inform the NDC of its plans raises serious questions about its motives.

It accused the IEA of acting as a front for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and seeking to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the governing party.

The Mahama 2024 campaign reminded the IEA and the Ghanaian public that the NDC, led by their presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama and running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, has been engaging with the citizenry for many years.

It said Mr Mahama’s online and offline conversations have targeted a wide range of audiences and focused on addressing the needs and concerns of the people of Ghana.

It added that their well-planned engagements with various sectors of society across the country have been and continue to be extremely beneficial to the people of Ghana and, therefore, cautioned the IEA against using the NDC’s name to promote their activities, as this is a blatant attempt to misrepresent their party deliberately.

The statement assured Ghanaians that the NDC’s commitment to meaningful and respectful engagement with the people of Ghana is unwavering and the party will continue to ensure that all Ghanaians’ voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
