Police in Tamale have arrested one Alhassan Lukman for allegedly transferring voters illegally from polling stations in the town.

The suspect, who is a teacher, is alleged to have taken voter ID cards of voters within Tamale South and Sagnarigu constituencies under the pretense of getting them support from some Arabs.

The victims went to check their names during the ongoing voters’register exhibition exercise only to find out that their names were transferred to Pusiga in the Upper East Region.

They became alarmed and reported the matter to the Tamale Metro Police who arrested the suspect.

NDC Presser

Meanwhile, leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region has given the Electoral Commission a 24-hour ultimatum to identify and cause the arrest of any EC official who aided the illegal transfer of voters from the Tamale area to Pusiga.

According to the party, failure to comply will result in a dip in the credibility of the EC.
