The Volta Region Chapter of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Power Queens has extended its humanitarian service to inmates of the Ho Female Prison.

The Association responded to a clarion call about inadequate food supply with a donation of groceries to enhance the feeding of the inmates during the yuletide.

The items included rice, maize, beans, milk, milo, carbonated drinks, biscuits, and sanitary products among others.

The President of the Volta Region Chapter of the ECG Power Queens, Queen Rose Amegbletor explained the gesture was to express their affection to the inmates and assure them that they have not been forgotten.

In a pep talk with the inmates, she encouraged them not to lose hope and allow their current situation to deter their focus and purpose in life.

She urged them to use the period serving their time to take a full retrospect of their lives and realign their lives to become worthy people in their society.

“We can also be where you are today. It can happen to anybody at any time. You may be here because of false accusations, judgment, or your unlawful acts but all hope is not lost yet.”

“Use the time you are here to reflect on your lives and advise yourself on how to become better people after serving your times”, said Queen Amegbletor.

The Volta and Oti Regional Accounts Manager, Mad. Modesta Kokoroko entreated the inmates not to be discouraged but to continue to have faith in a better life after prison.

She advised two nursing mothers among the inmates not to be depressed, or else it would affect the development of their newborns.

She adopted the two inmates and promised to provide them with a monthly stipend to support the well-being of their babies.

The Volta Region Chapter of the Electricity Company of Ghana Power Queens also supported the penitentiary with GH₵500 to purchase a mobile phone for use by the inmates to communicate with their loved ones outside the facility.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Beatrice Mensah was elated with the donation and complimented the union for the gesture.

He called on other entities and philanthropists to emulate the gesture to enable them to feed the inmates with a 3 square meal.
