West Ham United and Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus has explained the significance of the new stool he used to celebrate his equalizer against Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League on Saturday.

After Mats Wieffer put the Seagulls ahead in the 51st minute, the Ghanaian headed home from close range to cancel the lead just seven minutes later. He then pulled an elephant stool from the sidelines and sat on it – alongside teammate Crysencio Summerville – in a unique celebration, a slight variation from his customary pose on the steward’s seat or the stadium hoarding.

“As you know, I used to borrow the one from the stewards, and I thought about the idea of where I am from,” Kudus remarked in a post-match interview with West Ham United. “This is a stool from Ghana. The chiefs sit on it, so it is very special. It shows authority and kingship, so I thought why not do something different?”

He acknowledged that his celebration by sitting on the stadium hoarding had become quite KUpopular, generating a lot of discussion. As a result, he sought to create a unique and personal celebration.

“As you know, there are a lot of people sitting on the board now, and there’s a lot of conversation about it, so when I bring out my stool now, this is mine, and nobody can do it,” he added.
