The Appointments Committee has formally apologized to Ghanaians for the chaotic scenes that marred Thursday’s vetting session.

The committee expressed deep regret over the disorderly conduct witnessed during the proceedings and pledged to take corrective measures to uphold decorum in future sessions.

The turmoil erupted during the vetting of ministerial nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, as tensions flared between the Minority and Majority caucuses.

The Minority, insisting that prior discussions warranted a postponement, proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday. However, the Majority firmly opposed the suggestion, arguing that the process must proceed as planned.

Disagreements quickly escalated into physical confrontations, with some Minority members resorting to damaging tables and microphones in an attempt to halt proceedings.

Security personnel were swiftly deployed to restore order as the heated exchanges threatened to derail the session entirely.

Despite the disruptions, the Majority maintained that the committee’s schedule must be adhered to, emphasizing that any delays would undermine the efficiency of the vetting process.

They argued that the established protocols should be respected to ensure a smooth and transparent confirmation process for nominees.

In its apology, the Appointments Committee acknowledged the unacceptable nature of the incident and assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent a recurrence.

They reaffirmed their commitment to conducting future vetting sessions with the utmost professionalism, ensuring that the integrity of the parliamentary process is upheld.
