Assin South MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, has called on members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold their government appointees accountable for what he describes as lavish and unexplained lifestyles.

His comments were shared in a strongly worded post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, 11 May.

In the post, Ntim Fordjour criticised what he perceives as a worrying trend of extravagant spending by government officials barely four months into office.

“In just 120 days, they’re arrogantly and opulently sharing dollars in public, having stashed millions … under their beds. These are people who have never worked a day in their lives in any company,” he wrote.

He further alleged that some appointees flaunt luxuries that contradict the economic difficulties faced by ordinary Ghanaians.

“They are displaying ultra expensive phones and tablets on set; which worth can build classroom blocks in their constituency. They’ve suddenly acquired and \[are] driving around \$450,000 Range Rover Autobiography in less than 120 days in office,” he said, dismissing the effectiveness of the recently introduced Code of Conduct as “toothless.”

Ntim Fordjour admonished NDC foot soldiers to wake up to the disparity between their hardship and the indulgence of those in power.

“Yet, hungry NDC fanatics, sleeping in Dumsor heat and enduring rising cost of living in just 120 days, will be spewing nonfa on social media platforms with their 1ghc data. You worked, they’re chopping! You must demand accountability from your opulent appointees,” he concluded.
